The Williams Lake RCMP has an added way of patrolling the City.
Staff Sargeant Brad Mckinnon said as part of the Detachment’s Summer Action Plans they have been able to put together an upcoming bike patrol.
“In addition to that we also applied for funding through the Special Investigations & Targeted Enforcement (SITE) program. We submitted an application along with a business plan and we received approximately $50-thousand. Some of those funds were used to purchase two new E-Mountain bikes purchased locally from Red Shreds Bike & Board Shed. We’ll also be working with our other local bike shop Cycle Logic to outfit our police officers with all of the kit and equipment that they need to operate those bikes safely and in accordance with our policies and procedures.”
Mckinnon said Williams Lake RCMP will be running Bike Patrols from this point forward through until about October.
“And if things go well I look to expand the program to even bigger and betters uses for next Summer. We’re super excited, this was something we were able to knit together in an effort to fulfill our summer action plans in keeping the downtown core and our public spaces safe for all to use.”
With the 98th Annual Williams Lake Stampede happening June 25 to 28 Mckinnon said police acknowledge and recognize this is very much a celebratory event.
“The RCMP is thrilled to be a part of it. We will have lots of police officers in the community working hard to ensure the safety of our City and all Stampede goers. We want our community to have fun, we want everyone to be safe and we want people making healthy, positive decisions. Don’t drink and drive, don’t commit crime, be good and enjoy the event, and if you need help call us.”
