Quesnel RCMP respond to fatal accident

One person is dead following a single vehicle accident on the Barkerville Highway on Friday. (June 12)
Quesnel RCMP Sergeant Clay Kronebusch confirms that they received a report of an iPhone crash notification on Highway 26 near the Slough Creek 21-hundred Forest Service Road at approximately 8:21 p.m.
“A single vehicle left the roadway, and the driver who was the sole occupant was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency Crews attended the scene and attempted life saving measures on the 29-year old man; however, the man did not survive.”
Kronebusch says they had received a report earlier in the night of a pickup truck driving erratically.
“At approximately 6:57 p.m., the RCMP received a report of a pickup truck speeding and passing unsafely approximately 45 minutes prior to the report. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.”
Kronebusch says they were able to confirm that the vehicle in the collision was the same vehicle from the earlier driving complaint.
He says the investigation is ongoing, but they believe that speed and alcohol were both factors in the accident.
