Team Effort nets Williams Lake Emergency Department professionals an award

The Emergency Department at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake was recognized for their hard work.

They were given the 2026 Clinical Impact Award presented by Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC that honours nursing professionals whose hands-on-practice transforms patient outcomes and commuity health.

Vice President of Clinical Operations with Interior Health, Diane Shendruk, said it’s provincial recognition that really speaks to the impact that they’re having everyday in the community and we’re very proud of them.

“This team has really focused on strengthening trust and supporting culturally safe care. In an Emergency Department when people are accessing care that can be someone’s most vulnerable moment and this team really does get that and and understands that.”

The award also recognizes the Emergency Department team at Cariboo Memorial Hospital for delivering compassionate care in a high-pressure environment marked by staffing shortages, service interruptions and ongoing system change.

“It’s a multi disciplinary team that supports emergency care from our physicians to our highly qualified nursing staff, social workers, pharmacists, unit assistants, staff that keep the department clean, so it’s a diverse group of people that really impact patient care,” Shendruk said.

She noted that the team is so proud of the work they’ve done and to be given this award is very meaningful.

“What really stands out they have continued to deliver safe, compassionate care in a really complex environment. Rural emergency departments are quite complex. This team they haven’t just kept on going, they’ve stayed focused on the patient experience and that is most important,”Shendruck said.
