The 25th Annual Cops for Cancer Tour de North is getting ready to roll out this Fall.
This fundraising event in Support of the Canadian Cancer Society is set to begin on September 11th starting in Dawson Creek heading South to Williams Lake arriving on September 17th.
The team of law enforcement and emergency services personnel will travel over 800 kilometres to raise money for childhood cancer research and support services.
For one of those First Responders, Sharleen Bast, a member of the 150 Mile House Volunteer Fire Department, this will be her third year taking part in the Tour.
“This Tour actually helps support kids going to Camp Good Times which is a medically supported camp where they get to go and just be kids, they’re not the kids with cancer. They are also missing out on a lot of their childhood like a year or more going through cancer treatment in the hospital. That’s what really gets me into it.”
Bast noted that she had a couple of friends that were doing it the year before she started in 2024 and it seemed like a good challenge and a good cause to raise money for.
Along the route Team members will stop to participate in fundraising campaigns and visit schools in cities like Fort St. John, Chetwynd, Prince George, and Quesnel.
“That’s one of the main events. Going into schools, talking with the kids, interacting with them and raising awareness about what we’re doing.”
