To be or not to be outdoors this long weekend in the Cariboo

The weather is a hot topic of conversation with another Victoria Day Long weekend just around the corner here in the Cariboo.

According to Environment Canada it’s not going to start so great in terms of the temperature and the weather.

“We’re going to see an upper trough come through BC bringing a lot of cold air down,” Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon said, “we’re going to see cooler temperatures, some showers and even the possibility of thunderstorms on Friday (May 15) that may lead into Saturday (May 16).”

Sekhon noted that towards the latter part of the long weekend temperatures will climb into the mid teens and maybe even higher than that with some sunshine.

“Sunday, Monday is more hopeful but I wouldn’t rule out some clouds and the chance of showers but right now it’s not looking too bad.”

Looking at the temperatures for this Victoria Day Long weekend Sekhon said the normal high for this time of year is 18 degrees and it’s looking below normal for pretty much the entire 7 day forecast in the Cariboo region.

“With all this cool air coming down anyone travelling, going through mountain passes, there is going to be that possibility of some flurries or wet flurries on the Begie Summit, areas like that especially for Saturday evening (May 16). So take some caution if you are travelling on high elevation routes that there could be some mix precipitation.”
