Quesnel School Trustees will be getting a raise

School Trustees in the Quesnel School District are in line for a 2.1% raise.
That amount is in line with the Board of Education’s new policy on Trustee Stipends that ties any pay change to BC’s Consumer Price Index in December.
That will bump the trustee pay up from $14,929.20 annually to $15,240, the Vice-Chair will go from $16,304.28 to $16,740, and the Board Chair will jump up from $17,679.12 to $18,240.
The total increase for all seven Board members will be $2,550.60
The increases will be formally approved at Wednesday (May 13) night’s meeting, and they will take effect in July.
The new policy also calls for the Secretary-Treasurer to review Trustee stipends every four years to identify whether an adjustment is required to align with comparable school districts.
That issue will also be discussed at Wednesday (May 13) night’s meeting.
The Districts that have been selected for this review are Fraser-Cascade, Rocky Mountain, Peace River South, qathet, Sunshine Coast, Nicola-Similkameen, and Okanagan-Similkameen.
They were selected based on similarity to School District 28 when it comes to operating budgets, within approximately $15 million, and enrollment within approximately 950 FTE (full-time equivalent) students.
The average Trustee stipend of the seven comparable districts is $18,990.
That would amount to a $3,750 increase should it go ahead.
Any adjustment would take effect on January 1 following the inauguration of a newly elected Board.
