WorkSafeBC slaps $182,000 penalty on PG worksite

Tidewatwer Midstream and Infrastructure was handed a $182,282.38 penalty for a high-risk violation at its Prince George worksite.

WorkSafeBC said during a procedure to clear a blockage in a heavy fuel oil line, there was an uncontrolled flow of oil, and a worker’s clothing was sprayed with hot oil.

It attended the firm’s workplace in response to the incident, and determined the firm’s safe work procedures weren’t followed.

Those include no completed hazard assessment, no hot work permit, no standby person with emergency equipment, and workers failing to wear required personal protective equipment.

WorkSafeBC said the firm failed to ensure hazards were effectively controlled before allowing work to be done on machinery shut down for maintenance.

Penalty summaries can be found on WorkSafeBC’s website here.
