Barkerville Heritage Trust new operator of Cottonwood House

A historic site located east of Quesnel will now be managed by the Barkerville Heritage Trust.

Minister of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations Steve Thomson says he is very pleased to have made the announcement today with Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and also Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes, on Cottonwood House.

Cottonwood House, which has been managed by School District 28 for 11 years, was built in the 1860s to provide accommodation and meals to miners and travelers on their journey along the Cariboo “Waggon” Road.

Thomson says the one-year agreement with Barkerville Heritage is one step towards having historic sites self-sufficient.

Thompson says a longer-term maybe considered.
