Beekeepers from across the province including the Cariboo where a kept a buzz at a conference in Kamloops last week Friday to learn about the impacts of pesticide use on bee colonies.
Diane Dunaway, beekeeper and also the owner of Bee Happy Honey in Soda Creek, says although bees have fared relatively well compared to their eastern province cousins, especially in Ontario-it is yet unclear how they fared this year.
Dunaway says although bee loss is a complex problem, beekeepers within the province have drafted a letter of support for beekeepers in Ontario who lost an estimated 58% of their colonies last year.
