Joint Committee Gives Referendum Approval For South Cariboo Recreation Centre Expansion

After four community open houses on the proposed South Cariboo Recreation Centre expansion, the Joint Committee voted in favor Friday afternoon of going to referendum.

“We’re well aware if it should be a positive vote for yes, a referendum is still not binding,” says CRD Chair and Area H Director, Margo Wagner.

“We’re simply asking for permission to borrow up to $10 million should we be able to get grant funding that we currently have not been able to secure.”

“We feel that we have to go in order to either to put this project to bed or to continue on with it.”

The recommendation to go to referendum still needs to be ratified by CRD Board before a date is set for it.

The concept plan for the expansion of the South Cariboo Recreation Centre features a turf field the size of a soccer pitch, a hard surface area the size of a basketball court, and a second level walking track.
