SD28 Board of Education Agrees to 2% Increase on Annual Stipend

Quesnel’s Board of Education will see a 2% increase in their annual stipend based on the December 2017 BC Consumer Price Index.

Chair Gloria Jackson says that the Board also unanimously voted to claim a stipend increase of $1,000 annually which will primarily be used to offset a tax increase government is implementing next year.

“We’re seeing some changes to tax legislation and as of January 1, 2019, trustees will be taxed on the expense portion of their stipend which may create a tax effect of up to an additional $1,000 income tax for each Trustee.”

Trustees with School District 28 according to Jackson currently make an annual stipend of $11,444.

“The trustee elections are coming up here in October and it certainly shouldn’t be costing trustees to do the work so we thought we would like to do it now before the election and that way when the new Board comes on it’s not a decision that they have to make for next March because we always look at our trustee remuneration every March,” she says.
