Lakecity Councillors discuss a new fire truck

The bids for tenders may be in but the line is still being drawn in Williams Lake over purchasing a new fire pumper truck.

Lakecity Councillors reviewed the proposal last night at a Special Committee of the Whole meeting.

Councillor Surinderpal Rathor says in his mind the investment only makes sense.

“A lot of time the city can save money but on the other side the city’s main job is to provide service for the community; zoning, roads and streets, and fire protection.”

Rathor adds that although the current truck was rated for 15 years service by the manufacturer it has been in service for 20 years.

The purchase of a new fire truck in Williams Lake would have a price tag of over half a million dollars.

Williams Lake City Councillors will further discuss the matter at the next council meeting on Tuesday at 6 pm.
