One of the accused in a double murder in Anahim Lake has now been sentenced in Supreme Court in New Westminister.
Andrew Jongbloets who was found guilty of two counts of Manslaughter was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the death of Matthew Hennigar and 10 years in prison for the death of Kalvin Andy. The sentences will run concurrently of each other with Jongbloets also receiving credit for time in pre-trial custody which amounts to 3 years, 10 months and 29 days.
In handing down the sentence, Madame Justice Devlin noted that while she believed Jongbloets did enter into an agreement with Everett O’Reilly to get more guns for a planned robbery at Matthew Hennigar’s residence, he was not the shooter.
She also noted however that he had a significant criminal record.
The Crown was calling for 10 to 12 years on each charge while the Defence argued that 4 to 7 years for both was appropriate.
The charges are in connection with the deaths of 22-year old Kalvin Andy and 23-year old Mathew Hennigar in Anahim Lake on Boxing Day in 2014.
Two other people, Christian Cracium and Serene Rhem, were also charged with Second Degree Murder in this case.
Both were acquitted.
O’Reilly is charged on a separate indictment and is facing two counts of First Degree Murder.
His Supreme Court trial is currently underway.
