Rural Dividend Fund Was Kind To Quesnel Area

Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson is thrilled with the results of their applications to BC’s Rural Dividend Fund.

He says the city’s applications, along with a joint application with the Cariboo Regional District, means that the North Cariboo will receive around 900 thousand dollars for projects that are key components to Quesnel’s economic transition.

Simpson says they can now start spending that money…

“The 100 thousand dollars that will do the technical assessment of waterfront development and the visioning exercise really is just issuing a contract and getting a qualified company to come up and do this. Our Trails Coordinator that we already have in place now just has tools with the money that we got for the trails development to take our master trails strategy and start building that trail system, designing and building that system.”

Simpson says that will start as soon as the snow is gone.

As for the 250 thousand dollars the city received to market Quesnel as a four-season destination, he says that too will start soon…

‘Our marketing strategy is effectively just us getting the resource we need, looking for somebody who can bring that marketing expertise, so all of these projects we can implement immediately and i think you will start to see some of that action within a month.”
