Not everyone upset with 20 cent increase to minimum wage

With social media still buzzing with discussion and even frustration over the provincial government’s decision yesterday to increase the minimum wage by just $0 .20 cents, others are coming forward and saying the right call was made.
Angela Sommer, President of the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce who spoke with us this morning says the government made a wise call in basing the increase on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Sommer says the BC Federation of Labour’s $15 an hour proposal would have devastated Cariboo businesses.
The Federation of Labour who had called yesterday’s announcement a disappointment, meanwhile says by indexing the minimum wage to the CPI, the province’s minimum wage will not reach $15/hr until 2034.
BC’s $10.45/hour  minimum wage, which would rank 5th across Canada, will not be in effect until September.
