The Tsilhqot’in National Government has taken up the cause of securing what they call meaningful economic benefits from Gibraltar Mine for the Esdilagh First Nation.
TNG Tribal Chairman Chief Joe Alphonse says that it is unnacceptable that there is no impact benefits agreement between Taseko and Esdilagh and that it is now a TNG issue.
Chief Alphonse stated that they had a clear message for the province when it came to Taseko.
Chief Alphonse says that there are plenty of other companies that can operate the mine better.
When asked if he was concerned about public backlash, especially in the wake of New Prosperity being rejected Chief Alphonse stated that they would not be deterred by negative public opinion
