Slash Burning to Take Place Near and Above Williams Lake Walmart Until Mid-April

Residents can rest assured should they see any smoke near the Walmart site in Williams Lake.

Depending on adequate snowpack levels, Pioneer Logging will be conducting burning near and above the site from now through mid-April.

“The purpose of the burning is to remove fir beetle infested piles,” said Deputy Fire Chief Rob Warnock in a news release.

“This will reduce the fuel hazard and prevent the spread of fir beetle into the adjacent forested areas.”

The Fire Department has ensured that safety measures have been put in place and will be working with Pioneer Logging.

For further information, you can contact Warnock at 250-392-1778 or [email protected]

(Editor’s note: This article had incorrectly classified the burns as ‘controlled’ in the headline and has been corrected)
