DELAYED ! QJS Students Will Have To Wait To Move

The Quesnel School District has announced that a move from Quesnel Junior School to Maple Drive is being delayed.

The District received 1.7 million dollars back in November to renovate Maple Drive and the plan was to make the move during spring break.

The Board of Education, in consultation with senior staff, have now determined that it will now be delayed until the summer break.

A number of reasons were listed in a news release…

• Tender publishing by the District’s professional consultant on BC bid was delayed from the original schedule as a result of the complex nature and scope of work to be performed
• Awarding of the contract by our professional consultant to third party contractors was also delayed
• Certain supplies and materials which are of significant importance to staff and students would not be available until later than anticipated
• Ground thaw will be delayed due to recent weather conditions and would make installation of portables more challenging
• Also due to weather, the parking lot at the Maple Drive location cannot be remediated in time for opening just after Spring Break

The Board says it ultimately decided that delaying the move will allow for a smoother transition for students and staff in the 2018-2019 school year.
