Cariboo MLA Concerned About Potential Lower Mainland Budget

The Provincial budget will come down this afternoon and Cariboo North Liberal MLA Coralee Oakes says she will be paying close attention to a couple of things.

One is transportation and making sure that all of the money isn’t spent on the Lower Mainland…

“If you’ve got 1.4 billion dollars going to the Pattullo Bridge in Vancouver or the Lower Mainland, where is that money going to come from ? And my concern is, I’ve had a couple of stakeholders come up to me and talk about the Cariboo Connector, and some of the feelers they are getting from the Ministry that there might be delays or changes in that.”

Oakes says they need to make sure that projects that are on the books go ahead and make government accountable to that.

She says she is also concerned that 943 BC seniors care providers will be retiring over the next 10 years….

“What that means is an increase of 1500 FTE’s are needed to meet the 3.36 direct care hours and 900 FTE additional health care assistants, so we need to make sure that we are recruiting in our communities, that we are training in our communities.”

Oakes says the government needs a plan to replace them to make sure that seniors get the service they deserve.
