Local Real Estate Market Still Feeling Wildfire Impact

The wild fires of 2017 had a dramatic impact on the South Cariboo real estate market, and it is still recovering. 100 Mile House realtor David Jurek says that while Williams Lake real estate sales are showing an increase from last year, the South Cariboo Market inventory was down 60 to 70 percent during and after the fires. “The fires had a huge impact. The year started strong, up 12 percent, but then along came July, with he fires and the last half of the year was down 18 percent, for a spread of over 30 percent.”

Jurek says the market will be slow until spring which is when listings start going up again. Sales at the beginning of last year started out strong, and sales this January, as compared to the same time last year are only down two percent, possibly indicating a good recovery for the market.
