What’s Next For Quesnel When It Comes To Trying To Get A Junior Hockey Team

One way or another Quesnel has not seen it’s last KIJHL game.

Matt Kolle, one of the people trying to bring a team to Quesnel, says they still hope to get a franchise for the city.

Failing that though, he says they do plan to come back to the West Fraser Centre…

“Once we beat Revelstoke coming up here and if 100 Mile beats Chase, you never know, there could be playoff hockey in Quesnel. As far as next year goes if we aren’t able to attain a team, i am sure that there will be games back in Quesnel.”

Kolle says they were a little disappointed with the crowd in Quesnel on Friday night with about 540 people in the stands but he liked the crowd on Saturday night that topped the 700 mark.

He says they are still evaluating things in Kamloops and in other cities thoughout the league…

‘We had discussions with other KIJHL teams that may be in a tougher situation where they are right now, you know is it possible to move one of those teams ? We are a 49 percent owner of the Kamloops Storm and we need to take a look at where Kamloops stands at the end of the season, you know where do we stand financially ? I mean that’s still a consideration but we’re not there yet, it has to be the right case to move a team.”

On the Western States Hockey League adding 6 Alberta teams and none in BC, Kolle says he’s not surprised as there wasn’t a lot of interest in this province.

Kolle says their preference all along was the KIJHL.
