Quesnel Rec Centre To Get Rare Piece Of Equipment

The North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee has agreed to fund what’s called a paramill, if need be.

The request, from the Quesnel Accessability and Inclusion Committee, is for $8,000.

It is essentially a treadmill for wheelchairs and it will be located in the fitness room at the Arts and Recreation Centre.

Mayor Bob Simpson explains…

“What this piece of equipment does, and it would be used in rehabilitation as well, is it allows the individuals in wheelchairs to go backwards safely and to balance the muscle groups in their shoulders and arms in a way that they can’t do without this piece of equipment.”

The cost is normally around 9 thousand dollars but a supplier is currently having a sale for $6,750 plus taxes and shipping.

The Accessibility and Inclusion Committee still plans to look for other funding, which means they may end up not needing the money from the Joint Planning.
