Man accused of assaulting RCMP officer receives jail time

165 days in jail.

That was the sentence handed down to a Quesnel man, accused of assaulting a police officer.

Ryan Stephen Kozuchar, 23 at the time of his arrest, pled guilty to guilty to charges of Assaulting a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

Several other charges were stayed, including Threatening to use a Weapon.

The charges are in connection with an incident in June of last year.

Quesnel RCMP says an officer stopped a vehicle on the Barkerville Highway and made the legal demand for the driver, alleged to be 68-year old Raymond Kozuchar, to provide a breath sample as part of an impaired driving investigation.

The driver is accused of refusing to do that.

RCMP say the driver and his son then began to strike the officer in the head.

The officer then radioed for emergency back-up and Police say the two suspects fled the scene once a 2nd officer arrived.

Two people were arrested at a nearby residence.
