Ahead of the local government elections this fall, the Cariboo Regional District will be holding a by-election for Electoral Area E Director.
“It’s in the Local Government Act that we have to have a by-election,” says Chief Election Officer Alice Johnston.
“If we were a municipality then we wouldn’t have to but because we’re a regional district we have to unless the vacancy would have occurred after June 1st.”
Area E Director, Byron Kemp passed away last month at the age of 78.
The nomination period for candidates begins at 9 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2018, and closes at 4 p.m. on March 2, 2018. Nomination packages are available at the CRD’s Williams Lake office.
Advance polling will be available at the CRD’s Williams Lake office on March 28 and April 3, 2018.
General voting day will be April 7, 2018.
Area E-South Lakeside/Dog Creek according to the Cariboo Regional District website has a land area of 1,749 and a population of 4,129.
