Quesnel Plans To Hold Forest Sector Think Tank

Quesnel hopes to hold a two-day think tank session.

It would be hosted by the City, in partnership with the University of Northern BC, CNC and the Wildfire Recovery Team.

Mayor Bob Simpson says the focus would be on the future of the local forest industry…

“Looking at our timber supply review documentation, what’s going to happen with saw logs, what is going to happen with general fibre, what are some of the challenges we’ve got on the landbase and fibre flow side, and then what are some of the options and opportunities on the market side.”

Simpson says they should be able to take advantage of the fact that Quesnel is still one of the most integrated and diverse manufacturing sectors in a single location, bar none…

“To then be able to engage the province in some potential for creating some commercial pilot opportunities here with FP Innovations and also to make us a bit of an incubator and research hub for this kind of work with a view to expanding that out to the rest of the forest sector so it is just positioning us on our strengths to then look at re-inventing that sector.”

Simpson says the plan is to hold the session in late March.
