Quesnel Mayor Predicts Happy New Year For Community

Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson is expecting big things for the City in 2018.

Following up on a new arena this past year, Simpson says there will be another major project in the downtown core this year…

“That project, being the full three blocks of Reid Street, replacing the water main and then revitalizing the street scape, will be a major investment in our community and i think the repositioning of what i think is already one of the most vital and energized downtown cores, certainly in the north.”

Simpson says North Cariboo residents can also expect a major investment in the Riverfront Trail and the skateboard park in West Quesnel.

And he says he is also anticipating some good news on the grant front…

“We will hear early in the New Year whether or not we’ve got the money, and we think that we are going to be successful for a new gymnastics facility, an upgrade to the recreation facility as part of a two phase project.”

Simpson says he also working hard with Northern Health to make sure the renovation at G.R. Baker Hospital happens as well as some improvements on Highway 97 through the community.
