Gathering focuses on stopping sexual exploitation of children and youth

“Stopping the sexual exploitation of children and youth in our community.”

That was the focus of a gathering at Four Corners in downtown Quesnel Monday.

It also kicks off a province-wide campaign by the Elizabeth Fry Society.

Karima Beaucage, a Victim Support Services Worker in Quesnel, talks about the things that can make children and youth vulnerable to sexual exploitation…

Beaucage says they are usually lured from their home with promises of a job or money for modeling or other entertainment industries.

She says when it comes to prostitution, it is important to note that anyone under the age of 18 cannot consent so that too is considered exploitation.

Beaucage says they are collecting names to send to the Federal Government and the Cariboo/Chilcotin MP asking that more resources be put into tackling this problem.
