Salvation Army target of phone scam

There’s a new phone scam happening across the country.

Dawn Butt, an Executive Director at the Williams Lake Salvation Army wants people to be aware of what they’ll be asking for.

“The information that we received from our boss has been that people are calling and asking for money on behalf of the salvation army to raise funds for our christmas campaign. The problem with that is we don’t call anybody at anytime time of the year to solicit money ever”.

Butt says the only the campaign the Salvation Army does is through their christmas kettle and some people might get a letter in the mail from them if they’ve been on their mailing list in the past and those are the only two ways that they would ask for  any public donations at all.

Butt also says she hasn’t received any calls as of yet from the public inquiring about the phone scam but she does want people to be a little  bit more vigilant and a little more cautious especially at this time of year.
