Cariboo/Prince George MP Wants More Money To Combat Opioid Crisis

The MP for Cariboo/Prince George is questioning how much money the Federal Government is putting into the opioid crisis.

Todd Doherty says while it is a good start. it’s not enough…

“We’re spending 550 million dollars to legalize marijuana while only committing about 7.8 million dollars to try and combat this opioid crisis. and when something as potent and strong that even something or an amount the size of a grain of sand that can be a lethal dose, i think we should be putting more attention to this.”

Doherty also questions spending the money on more safe injection sites…

“I don’t see how this is going to get people off drugs, those that are addicted, and i’m not quite sure how it’s going to go beyond our most marginalized communities. What about the teenager that’s going to the rave ? Or what about the blue collar worker that is coming off work and maybe trying a drug ? Or what about the young professional that is experimenting as well too ?”

Doherty says he would like to see more money spent on prevention and education.
