Extreme Weather Shelters Available in 100 Mile House and Quesnel

The B.C Government has partnered with local governments and non-profit organizations to create over 1,200 extreme weather shelter spaces for this upcoming winter in communities across the province including the Cariboo.

The winter shelter spaces are divided into 2 categories: regular winter shelter spaces which will be open overnight, every night, and extreme weather response shelter spaces which will be open when an extreme weather alert is issued.

100 Mile House will be open to a regular winter shelter space located at 555-B Cedar Avenue South.

Quesnel will be open to an extreme weather response shelter space located at 146 Carson Street.

“Everyone needs access to a safe and warm place to stay, especially during extreme weather conditions,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

“The health and safety of people living on the street will always be a priority for our government and their well-being is especially concerning during the cold and wet winter months, when prolonged exposure to extreme conditions could be fatal.”

Both types of facilities will be in operation until March 31, 2018.
