Body of Missing Man in Bella Coola Located

The BC Coroners Service will be conducting an investigation after the body of a local man in Bella Coola was located along the shoreline one day after police were notified that he was missing and presumed drowned.

Bella Coola RCMP say the man’s body was located Friday.

It is believed that the man who lived on a floating home had experienced issues with his home and that it may have been sinking, or had already sunk.

Police attended the dock where the floating home had been tied up and found that the home was completely destroyed.

An immediate search had been activated calling on Search and Rescue, BC Parks, Department of Fisheries and Nuxalk First Nations Coastal Guardians. The Coast Guard and other marine search and rescue personnel were also called however the weather at the time hampered all maritime search efforts.

No further details will be released.
