Local Organizing Committee Struck for Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour

Details are starting to come together as Williams Lake prepares to host Rogers Hometown Hockey.

“We’ve picked a location on Oliver Street between second and third avenue and then just off to the sides a wee bit,” says Hometown Hockey coordinator, Deb Radolla.

“So there will be a giant street party occurring on the dates January 6 and 7, and Rogers will be providing lots of food and entertainment.”

Radolla adds the party will take place from 12 pm until 6 pm on Saturday, and then at noon on Sunday until the end of the live broadcast hockey game between the Canucks and Canadiens that will be projected on to huge screens on Oliver Street. There will also be a live mobile studio with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone doing pre and post game and intermission shows.

The local organizing committee which held their first meeting Thursday will continue to meet up until the event with their next meeting scheduled for November 9.

“We’ve got lots of involvement from Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association, the Downtown Business Improvement Association is on board, the Chamber of Commerce,” says Radolla.

“So lots of groups are working together to ensure that we provide some local flair to what Rogers is bringing and we make this a real extraordinary winter event for the town.”
