South Cariboo Fire Relief Fund Makes First Donation

Money from the South Cariboo Fire Relief Fund is starting to be distributed after a successful summer of fund raising.

The Fire Relief Fund, which includes members from the 100 Mile Lions Club, CRD, District of 100 Mile House and Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett, made their first donation to the South Cariboo Search and Rescue Team – totaling $9000.

Chris Nickless, a chair member of the South Cariboo Fire Relief Fund, says the Search and Rescue team plans to use the money to purchase computer mapping equipment.

Nickless says donations have come in from various places.

“Well there’s donations coming through the credit union, but we have donations from Lions’ Clubs throughout Alberta and BC, businesses and also individuals.”

The BC Wildfire T-Shirt and Hoodie fund raiser put on by Shane Gunn and Darcy Foster was also a huge part of the South Cariboo Fire Relief Funds success, donating 10 thousand dollars towards the cause.

Donations can still be made through the Williams Lake and District Credit Union.
