CRD Building New Community Libraries in Bridge Lake/Interlakes and McLeese Lake

A new community library will soon be open near the Interlakes Corner.

Director for Area L with the Cariboo Regional District, Brian Coakley says he thinks it’s great.

“The public will get to enjoy a brand new facility and it’s going to be permanent; we bought the land. The building has already been constructed, it just has to be put placed on the land-it’s a modular building and I think it’s a great location; it’s very central to all the people out there.”

Coakley says they came up with the solution of buying the piece of land with a modular building as it would cost about $40,000 a year for the library to remain at the closed Bridge Lake Elementary school.

Also getting a new community library which is a modular building manufactured by Horizon North out of Kamloops is McLeese Lake.

“All the way back to 2011 this has been sort of a ping-pong of trying to find an appropriate site,” says Area D Director Steve Forseth. “We were finally able in the last year to nail down the site and type of structure.”

The new library building in McLeese Lake according to a CRD news release is located directly behind the old library and is a significant improvement with more space, air conditioning and room to accommodate two computer stations. The old building will be removed and repurposed.

Both libraries which each cost $154,000 and are being paid out of existing capital reserves in the CRD’s library services budget are expected open before the end of the year.

“Going forward, these buildings will be a standard design for all stand-alone rural libraries within the CRD,” said a news release.
