Faculty strike at UNBC sees university classes cancelled at Quesnel campus

The Faculty Association at the University of Northern British Columbia, including at the Quesnel campus, are now officially on strike!

Contract talks between the two sides broke off at around 9 o’clock last night.

Both sides confirm that compensation continues to be a major stumbling block to getting a deal.

While picket lines are up in the north, they are not at the Quesnel campus.

Union President Jacqueline Holler…

That means support staff, represented by CUPE, can still work at the UNBC/CNC campus in Quesnel.

UNBC Vice President of External Relations Rob Van Adrichem notes that some UNBC courses will still be offered.

He says some continuing studies courses could still be offered because they are offered in a different way than their academic courses.

The two sides are expected to meet again today to continue negotiations.
