Vehicle Stop Leads to Firearm Seizure

A woman from the Williams Lake area is scheduled to appear in court after a loaded semi-automatic rifle was seized Friday evening following a vehicle stop.

Officers of the Crime Reduction and General Duty Uniform Unit with the Williams Lake RCMP targeted a known subject who may have been unlawfully in possession of a firearm at approximately 7 pm.

Police say the investigation resulted in the stop of a vehicle near Williams Lake and following a search of the vehicle, the seizure of a loaded SKS rife and multiple 20 round plus magazines.

“The Crime Reduction Unit and General Duty Section are committed and remain dedicated to the strategies of focusing on making our community safer,” said Cst. Andrew Waters.

“Removing this type of firearm and prohibited device from an unlawful possession is just one example of preventing potential violence by our officers.”

The female suspect who is known to police was arrested and has since been released.She is scheduled to appear in court on February 14.

Police note that the investigation is continuing and still remains in its early stages.
