Smoke Expected to Remain Visible from Plateau Fire

The Plateau Fire is now being handled locally out of the Quesnel fire zone once again.

Fire Information officer with the Cariboo Fire Centre, Natasha Broznitsky says the fire hasn’t grown in some time and is considered as ‘being held’.

“Despite the cool weather and snow in many areas on this fire, it’s not unusual to be seeing smoke coming up from hot spots underground or as the fire sort of moves and finds unburned patches of fuel.
People in this area can expect to see that smoke for some time to come.”

Broznitsky says that a local Cariboo unit crew is continuing to work on the fire, and is patrolling priority areas, extinguishing hotspots where appropriate, and collecting any unused gear that is still on the line.

The Plateau Fire which is estimated at 521,012 hectares in size became one of the province’s largest fires in history when 19 fires merged in late August.
