7 Cariboo jobs on the line as Interior Health seeks to privatize hospital laundry services

Seven jobs at two hospitals within the Cariboo are at risk as Interior Health seeks to privatize hospital laundry services.

Mike Old, Communications Director for the Hospital Employee’s Union, says although there was a 3 month consultation period during which alternatives were considered he is not entirely surprised that Interior Health is moving forward with seeking bids to have laundry services completed in the Lower Mainland or even Alberta.

Old,  says the move would come from Interior Health choosing not to make a modest and important investment in good services and decent family-supporting jobs.

Interior’s Health final decision should be known by the Union in the next 2 to 3 months, says Old.

A total of 175 jobs in 11 communities, including 4 in 100 Mile House and 3 in Williams Lake would be lost.

Calls to Interior Health have not been returned.
