Police Investigate Early Morning Death in Williams Lake

UPDATE Wednesday, October 11: RCMP Inspector Jeff Pelley says there was nothing suspicious or criminal to this incident.

No further details will be released.

Story Published PM Saturday, October 7: A deceased man was located in downtown Williams Lake after RCMP received a report of shots fired Saturday morning.

Police say they were advised of a shots fired complaint on 1st Avenue South at 3:00 am and attended the area locating the body of one deceased male.

Williams Lake General Duty, General Investigations Section, Crime Reduction Unit and Forensic Identification Section members were all called in to assist throughout the investigation.

“The Williams Lake RCMP believe this to be an isolated incident, and there appears to be no immediate danger to the general public,” said Inspector Jeff Pelley.

“No further information will be released at this time as the investigation continues.”

RCMP ask anyone with information or anyone in the area of 1st Avenue South between 2:30 AM and 3:15 AM on October 7, 2017, to contact the Williams Lake General Investigations Section at 250-392-6211 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Original Story Published AM Saturday, October 7:  Police tape is up around a scene on 1st Avenue South in downtown Williams Lake this morning where a body lays on the ground between the buildings of Johnson Block and the Carrier-Chilcotin Tribal Council.

Staff Sgt. Del Bryon confirms that the matter is still under investigation and says that police are not commenting at this time.
