RCMP in Williams Lake will be investigating a fire that occurred Friday afternoon at a multiplex residence on the corner of 6th Avenue South and Yorston Street.
Chief of the Williams Lake Fire Department Des Webster says crews were called to the residence at around 2 pm.
“Visible smoke and flame was coming from between the two floors. Crews made entry and did a great knockdown on it, and could find the damage between the floors but up into the main bedroom upstairs.”
Webster adds that there was a lot of smoke and water damage, and says although the Department has some ideas on how the fire started nothing is confirmed.
The investigation has now been turned over to RCMP.
“Unfortunately there was one deceased in the building-an elderly lady and that’s why it’s been handed over to the RCMP,” says Webster.
