Pow Wow Set For This Weekend

The Quesnel Tillicum Society is hosting it’s 44th annual Pow Wow this weekend.

Executive Director Tony Goulet says it all starts tonight with a family dance at the Native Friendship Centre and then the celebration will continue through Sunday…

“Then on Saturday we are going to kick off with the grand entry at 12 o’clock at the soccer facility, all indoors, and then there will be a supper from about 5 until 6, 7….it is an open feast, also at the soccer field.”

Goulet says there will be the usual dancing and drumming, all celebrating the local traditions and customs of the four local First Nations Bands.

“It’s too get the younger people and show the traditional dances, and also show the traditional drumming, like there are different drum groups that come around , even from out of province we have a couple of drum groups coming from Alberta. They heard about our pow wow and they want to come and show you that there is different types of drumming and different techniques. And of course the dancing, the pow wow dancing.”

He says more than 800 people took in last year’s event.
