Timber supply cut area reduced

The Ministry of Lands, Forests, and Natural Resource Operations has reduced the Williams Lake Timber Supply area cut level from 5.8 million cubic meters to 3 million.

Chief Forester Dave Peterson, who made the announcement yesterday morning says although he personally understands how important the forestry industry is to the area it was a decision that had to be made.

The Ministry says the pine beetle infestation peaked in 2005-2006.

Peterson says the decision should not have any impact on the four lumber mills in the Williams Lake Timber Supply Area.

The Williams Lake Timber Supply area includes the city of Williams Lake, and the communities of Horsefly, Likely, Micocene, Alexis Creek, Anahim Lake, Tatla Lake, Riske Creek, Big Creek, and Nimpo Lake.
