Working together to bring residents home

The District of 100 Mile House, the City of Williams Lake, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) and First Nations are combining their efforts to work towards the safe return home for residents currently on evacuation order.

Mayor of Williams Lake Walt Cobb says a number of things have to be put in place before the order can be lifted.

“There’s some essential services that have to be in place. We have to have the emergency room at the hospital open, so some of those workers have come back today to see what needs to be done to get it open. We have to have some food services open, we have to have the ability to people to go shopping and get groceries and what not when they come home.”

100 Mile House is the community closest to having such services in place according to the Cariboo Regional District although they say it is not yet possible to confirm when residents can return and that re-entry is dependent on fire activity in the surrounding area.

Cobb said as of Thursday evening that the City of Williams Lake has not lost any power and that there have been no fires within the City boundaries

He says the rain which poured in the morning was great although it would have been even nicer if it would have lasted all day.
