It took the efforts of three fire departments to fight a structure fire in the central Cariboo.
CRD Fire Chief Rodger Hollander said early this morning (Friday) the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Hillside Road in the Wildwood/Fifty area.
“When crews arrived they had heavy fire and smoke. They called out the assistance of the Williams Fire Department as well as the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department for water support in addition to personnel support.”
Hollander said there were two occupants in the home that did make it out.
“They did suffer some smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by BC Ambulance Service and I believe transported to hospital afterwards. They did not have any other injuries or complications. Some other good news, the pets also made it out of the home.”
Hollander said unfortunately the home was a total loss and it’s unknown at this time how the fire occurred and where it started.
Williams Lake Fire Department Deputy Chief Cory Boyd said they received a request for the mutual aid at 1:22 this morning (Friday) and arrived on scene around 1:45.
“We sent an engine and a tender with a total of 10 firefighters in support. The structure was fully involved and Williams Lake Firefighters helped Wildwood protect exposures and extinguish the fire.”
Boyd said they were on scene for close to 3 hours.
