A Drone Joins The Battle Against Wildfire Near 100 Mile

Crews continue to gain the upper hand on the Gustafson wildfire that forced the evacuation of 100 Mile House.

Fire Information Officer Heather Rice says containment is now up to 35 percent and it remains at 57-hundred hectares in size.

She says they are making good progress on mopping up and working on any hot spots…

“We did have an infrared drone fly the guards last night so it could pick up at hot spots within our fire guards and help crews focus in on those to again ensure our fire guards are strong and keep the fire within the perimeter.”

Rice says the fire remains on the west side of Highway 97.

She says mother nature has been helping…

“The weather has actually been cooperative the last couple of days with cooler temps and very little wind and higher relative humidity has helped the crews.”

Rice says they currently have 251 firefighters and helicopters working on the fire as well as 1 pieces of heavy equipment.
