The unemployment rate in the Cariboo region was down last month for the first time since October of 2024.
Vincent Ferrao, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats Canada, says “the unemployment rate was 6.7% for the three month average ending in February, and the three month average ending in February of 2025 was 7.3%.”
The 6.7% was also the lowest number since July of last year.
Ferrao says there were roughly 2,000 more people working in the region last month.
“More people were working in wholesale and retail trade in February. That would be the main one. We have a bit more in manufacturing and also in business, building, and other support services. There were very small declines in a couple of areas.”
The national jobless rate in February was 6.7% as well, up from 6.5 in January.
BC’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.1%.
