The Watch Lake/North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department is requesting the Cariboo Regional District enter into a contract in which the District collects the Department’s annual fire dues in conjunction with property taxes.
Roy Allan, President of the Department who made the request today says fire dues are projected to rise as the department’s area of coverage has grown to 500 properties.
Allan says First Responder services by the Watch Lake/North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department have been suspended since Jan. 11 until the Department can guarantee that there is personnel available 24/7.
80% of property of owners currently pay their annual fire dues according to Allan.
Al Richmond, Chair of the Cariboo Regional District says the request will be brought forward for further consideration by board members at a future date.
