Town of Lac La Hache Under Evac Alert as Order Expands

An evacuation order issued by the Cariboo Regional District at 11:48 Friday, July 7 has now expanded to include everything north of the 108 on the west side of Lac La Hache as far as Station Road.

The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following areas:

  • 108 Mile Ranch Community west of Hwy 97
  • 105 Mile Community west of Hwy 97
  • All properties west of the 108 Mile Ranch Community and north of the previous evacuation order to the west boundary of geographic area 105 Mile.
  • All Properties on the west side of Lac La Hache including Calbaria Rd. and roads leading into it

CRD Chair Al Richmond says the Fire Centre advised them of changing wind conditions.

“This is a very large area. Probably populations of about 3,000 people so it’s going to take a considerable amount of time to go door-to-door to advising them, they are under an evacuation order are. So the RCMP have begun the door-to-door and will be leaving packages at doors advising them to leave. It’s changing quickly, even as I speak now.”

BC Wildfire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says given the weather forecast and outlook for today, they anticipate it will be another challenging day.

He says as of noon that the fire is estimated as 1,200 hectares.
