Crews Respond to ‘Out of Control’ wildfire near raven lake

BC Wildfire Service Crews are fighting a new wildfire in the Cariboo near Raven Lake 55 kilometres west of Williams Lake.

Fire Information Officer Natasha Broznitsky explains how it was caused.

“Hot, dry and windy conditions caused an increase in fire behavior on a prescribed burn conducted by the Ministry of Forest Lands and Natural resource operations causing it to spread outside of the prescribed burn area. The BC Wildfire Service responded yesterday evening with aggressive suppression effort. Crews and heavy equipment have completed containment lines around one hundred percent of the perimeter”.

Broznitsky says the fire does not pose a threat to public safety or property at this time.

At this time BC Wildfire Service is urging the public not to use the Alex Graham/Raven Lake Forest Service Road also known as the 13 hundred Road.

“The fire last night was estimated to be 125 hectares in size, but a more accurate estimate, keeping in mind it’s still an estimate, has put the fire closer to 60 hectares,” says Broznitsky.
