Bouchie Lake Elementary Wins BCAA Play Here Contest

Bouchie Lake Elementary School in Quesnel is an official winner in the BCAA Play Here Contest.

The three schoools across the province that each won up to $100,000 to revitalize their play spaces in the 4-week voting contest were announced Friday on Global News.

Principal Cynthia Bernier says it was an exciting morning for students at the school.

“There was huge excitement, lots of smiling. It was just great! Lots of dancing around and excitement and ‘oh can we look at the catalogs again now that we know we’re going to have this new playground we want to know what we can put into it;’ the kids are very involved in the process.”

Bernier says there was a lot of participation from the community as well and that over the months of the contest they’ve had a lot of fun and that it really brought everyone together.

She says they will now begin the planning stage with teams from BCAA to decide what kind of equipment they need adding that they have already identified the need for an outdoor classroom which will be the center point of the upgrade which will likely happen in the fall.
